Hello readers, today I am going to tell you about the newbie released Xiaomi Redmi Y1. Xiaomi is a privately owned company that designs, develops, and sells smartphones, an Android-based OS, and other consumer electronics. Xiaomi also makes fitness trackers, TVs, air purifiers, and tablets. It has a skin for its Android phones and tablets – MIUI. The company largely sells its phones via flash sales in India.

Xiaomi has launched a new ultra-affordable Redmi phone, Y1, in the Indian market. The Y1, according to Xiaomi, belong to a whole new series of phones that will be primarily targeted towards the youth looking for a big screen and ‘the best’ selfie experience. Because the phones in the new series will be sold under the Redmi banner, phones like the Y1 will cost under and around Rs 10,000.

In hindsight, the Redmi Y1 is the rebranded version of the Redmi Note 5A Prime and the Redmi Note 5A that were recently launched in China. Both the phones boast of more or less the same build and design scheme, as well as more or less the same hardware specifications. In fact, when you set up the Redmi Y1, it is identified as Redmi 5A by Google. So why the rebranding? While the Y1 is a selfie-centric phone, which offers 16 MP front camera aspires to offer a Redmi 4A-like experience on a bigger screen.

The Redmi Y1 look like stretched out Redmi 4A. The phone comes with an all-plastic body and curved 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on the front. A metal body or the lack of it isn’t necessarily a deal breaker, especially in this price segment, although it would have been nice if the Redmi Y1 came with one like the Redmi 4 for some added differentiation with the Redmi Y1 lite. What’s important and surprising is that Redmi Y1 is beautiful and very ergonomic. The phone, just so you know, have a slightly metallic finish on the back that’s smooth to the touch and because the rear seamlessly wraps around their front, the phone feels all the more comfortable in the hands.

The Redmi Y1 comes with an always-on fingerprint scanner on the back (which works well most of the time unless you have greasy or sweaty fingers). The Redmi Y1 come with a 5.5-inch HD screen with 720p resolution. The phone comes with an inbuilt reading mode that turns colours to the warmer end of the spectrum for night-time reading.

  • Front Camera: The Redmi Y1 comes with a whopping 16-megapixel camera on the front with an LED flash and smart photo-editing tricks courtesy MIUI 9.
  • Rear Camera: On the camera front, the phone comes with the 13-megapixel camera on the rear with f/2.0 aperture, Phase Detection Autofocus along with an LED flash.
