Google Removed UC Browser From Play Store, Reasons and Actions

Google has given a big jolt to the UC Browser app, owned by Alibaba Group. Google has removed UC Browser app from Plays tore. The app called UC Browser Mini is still on Google Play Store. Recently, the Government of India noticed that UC Browser is transferring the data of the app user to the remote server located in China. It was also said that the server used that data after the data was deleted from the phone.

There are 50 million users of UC browser. According to Internet Trends Report 2017 by Cleaner Perkins, UC Browser is ranked sixth in the list of the most downloaded apps in India. At the same time, according to the Android Authority report, UC Browser has 10 million active monthly users in India.

Although UC Browser Mini is still available on the Play Store, it has not been removed from Google. According to media reports, Google has removed UC Browser from Play Store because of Miss Leading promotions also. Some reports also say that UC Browser has been temporarily removed from Google Play for 30 days. It will be restored again a few days later.

Allegations (Claims) on UC Browser

  1. There have been various types of allegations on UC Browser. Trust media reports, UC Browser has been accused of sending users data to China on their servers. The Indian government also expressed its objection on this. However, the company later cleared it too.
  2. According to reports, a user has claimed that he works for UC Browser and accordingly, the restriction is only for some time. This user says that the browser has been removed from the Play Store for only 30 days because the wrong methods are being used for promotions to increase the numbers of installation.

Actions Taken by The Indian Government

  1. It is worth mentioning that in August, the government had ordered the investigation of UC Browser in leaking mobile data of Indian users. In this regard, a senior IT Ministry official said that there are complaints against the UC Browser that it sends the mobile data of Indian users to the server stored in China. There were also complaints that if the user uninstalled it or wipes browsing data, then its control remains on the user’s DNS.
  2. If allegations on the UC Browser are confirmed, then it can be banned in the country. Let us tell you that UC Browser is a part of Alibaba’s mobile business group. Alibaba has made big investments in Paytm in India. Apart from this, the Chinese company has invested big money in Snapdeal too.
